Anglo American sets out new sustainability roadmap for 2030

| Anglo American has launched a new sustainability strategy that outlines its goals for community development, environment and improving trust and transparency within the mining industry by 2030.
The strategy is part of Anglo American’s FutureSmart Mining initiative, which focuses on sustainable mining through innovation. “If Anglo American is to play its part in creating a sustainable future for the world and improving the lives of all of us who live here, then we must be prepared to challenge our business and ourselves, by re-imagining mining,” said Mark Cutifani, chief executive of Anglo American. The company’s goals for 2030 include the creation of five offsite jobs for every onsite job; reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and freshwater abstraction by 30 per cent and 50 per cent, respectively; and improving energy emissions by 30 per cent. |
